![]() This past weekend I attended a huge Country concert here in Louisiana called Bayou Country Superfest. Its an annual concert at Tiger Stadium (LSU) in Baton Rouge, which is only about an hour and a half away from where I live in Houma. For us it started last year when my youngest daughter decided she wanted to attend the concert in lieu of a birthday present. Her birthday is May 25th and BCSF is always held on Memorial Weekend. She and I attended the concert and had a BLAST!! We saw so many big named bands that we swore we would make it a family tradition to go every year. This year we added some friends to our guest list. When we started planning, my oldest daughter (seeing how much fun we had last year) was supposed to come with us. But at the last minute she chose not to go and we gave the ticket to my other daughter's boyfriend. After all, Launa (my oldest daughter) doesn't listen to Country and it was Alexis (my youngest daughter)'s sixteenth birthday. So why shouldn't she spend it with her boyfriend, right? We also went with my best friend of 23 years, Dawn, and her sister, Kimberly, and Kimberly's girlfriend, Katie. Normally the BCSF weekend consists of just a Saturday and Sunday night show, but this year they added a Friday night show. However, we didn't get tickets early enough for Friday nights show- which was George Strait and Reba McEntire. Those tickets sold out really quick. But we did get tickets for the usual Saturday and Sunday night shows. So we all drove up together Saturday afternoon and checked into our suite at Embassy Suites there in Baton Rouge. Alexis and I had stayed there before a few years ago when we were attending a softball tournament. It was a beautiful hotel. However, this year the hotel was under construction and I must say, she and I were terribly disappointed. However, the room was really nice, even though it was only a king suite and not the two queen suite we had reserved. BUT, it worked out, so no big deal there. ![]() The concert didn't start til 5 PM so we had a little time to kill before leaving for the stadium. So Dawn and Katie did a few beer bongs to get the party started. That's Dawn on the right taking her first beer bong and that's them below in the back seat having fun while we waited in traffic by the stadium. Once we found a parking spot it was a matter of a small hike to the venue. The sight of Tiger Stadium is truly breath taking to me though. I watch the LSU Tigers play football on TV every chance I get so to be at the actual stadium where some of those games take place kinda gets me a little star struck. We find our general admission seats amongst a few of Katie's friends and thank goodness they saved us some seats on the shady side of the stadium! The high for the day was supposed to be 87 but it sure felt like 107 when walking in the sun and through the crowd (55,000 people attended on Saturday night! The bottom right picture is a panoramic of the stadium at night from the stage up to our seats). And finally the show started at 5 PM with Gloriana, followed by Easton Corbin, Lee Brice, then Florida Georgia Line, and finally, LUKE BRYAN!!!! Each and every one of the bands was amazing. But I have to admit, I'm in love with Luke Bryan and he was, by far, the best act. That's why they saved him for last! lol. The only bad thing about the whole concert was trying to get out of the parking lot and back on the Interstate. They don't direct traffic and it took us 30 minutes just to get out of the lot we were in. LOL. Then we still had to get up to the main street and find the Interstate. That took a while and a few U-turns thanks to the crappy navigation system in Dawn's truck. And since none of us had eaten since the drive to Baton Rouge, we were all starving. We ended up getting back to the hotel at almost 1:30 AM and going our separate ways in search of food. Which, ironically, we all found at a nearby Wendy's drive thru window. BUT, not even all that could wipe the smiles off of our faces. We all went to sleep with visions of Luke Bryan shakin his ass in our head. Well, maybe Gage didn't, but even the lesbians were proclaiming that Luke would father their babies. ha ha. I was awakened in the early morning with a Pancreatitis attack. I have no idea what brought it on but it was a bad one. So, after much thought and a lot of pain, I had to reluctantly decide to not attend Sunday's festivities. Which really broke my heart because it was my baby's 16th birthday and I really wanted to spend the day with her. We had all planned on shopping at the nearby outlet mall and then tailgating at the stadium. And the line up for Sunday night was just as good as Saturday's. First was Joe Nichols, then Big & Rich, Hunter Hayes, Erich Church, and finally, Jason Aldean. As badly as I wanted to go, I just couldn't get out of bed. Instead, I turned my daughter and her boyfriend over to my best friend and her sister and asked that they take care of them for me. Of course they did and since I wasn't going to the show, I gave my ticket to Katie. She hadn't bought herself a ticket because she had to work early Monday morning. But rather than let mine go to waste, she decided to use it. And I'm glad she did because she and Kim are the ones that brought Alexis and Gage to the concert and then to Hooters for dinner. They didn't stay for the whole show but they all still had a great time. I stayed in bed the entire day and night! I didn't even want to wake up MONDAY morning when my alarm was going off. But when we did get up and get packed and checked out, we decided on IHOP for breakfast. One cup of coffee for me and I felt brand new! So off to the outlet mall we went for some real brand new stuff. I really did have fun then! Just ask my wallet. lol. Besides the fact that I spent too much money, I really loved the new outfits I got but most of all I loved the smile on Alexis's face when she got some new outfits too. It was priceless. Nothing makes a mothers heart swell more than putting a smile on her child's face. And since I had done that all weekend, I was one happy, swollen momma. But even as busy as we were, we did not forget about Memorial Day. The day where we remember those who served our country that are no longer with us. It's about the men and women that gave their lives fighting for our freedom. I give thanks to our fallen soldiers and pray for their souls. I personally don't know anyone who lost their life while serving our country but I do know a lot of Combat Veterans. I thank God for them everyday. Over the many years that our Nation has been at war, we have lost too many sons and daughters. Husbands and wives. Brothers and sisters. Dads. And Moms. Its a shame, but a necessary loss to protect our freedoms. It 's a duty and an honor for those who pay the price. And I, for one, am thankful. ![]() P.S. I did wear my Country Tote the night that I went to the concert. It was super cute with my outfit and boots!! I just wish I had made the strap a little bit longer, a problem that I will rectify before wearing it again. You can find the pattern for it here on my blog or just click the link below http://head2toecustomcreations.weebly.com/my-blog/country-tote-crochet-pattern
